Apply for Services

South Carolina Talking Book Services is a free braille and talking book library service for people with temporary or permanent low vision, blindness, or a physical disability that prevents them from reading or holding the printed page.

To obtain services, individuals and institutions must submit an application form (PDF). The form must be must be submitted with the signature of a certifying authority. We only accept fully completed mailed, faxed or scanned applications. Certifying authorities include, but are not limited to - medical doctors, optometrists, registered nurses, rehabilitation teachers, or licensed social workers.

Applicants with reading disabilities must submit certification by a medical doctor only. Applications may also be obtained from local public libraries or by calling the South Carolina State Library at 1 (800) 922-7818 or (803) 734-4611 (in Columbia). We contact applicants when completed applications are received.

For schools serving students, please complete the Annual Student Listing Form for Schools. The names and contact information of each student will be put on file with your institution’s information and will not be disclosed to anyone. Only students with qualifying conditions can use the TBS equipment on loan to your institution.
